SATURDAY'S VOYEUR '10- Eighth week of performance by Actor Alexis Baigue

Uzicka_cropMany months ago, everyone in SATURDAY'S VOYEUR was asked if they would write a blog entry at some point during the run. Like the rest of my cohorts, I agreed and was told that my blog would be needed in August.

Nine days ago, Andra Harbold gently reminded me that mine was now due.

Five days ago, I apologized for my delinquency and vowed to write it within twenty-four hours.

Today, I am once again confronted with the fact that most people in my life experience frustration with my perpetual inability or unwillingness to keep my promises on time, if at all. This is why acting is the only thing at which I succeed: Opening night will not wait for me, so I am compelled to devote myself fully to preparing for it. During rehearsal, I am scared into self-discipline that can be found nowhere else in my life; my fear of forgetting something on-stage and ruining the performance is so overwhelming that, from the first rehearsal through the first week of the run, I obsess about perfecting the show. To paraphrase a hypothesis of my brother Christopher to explain my life to my father several years ago: I am an idiot acting savant.

This is why I am so glad to be cast in SATURDAY'S VOYEUR for the tenth time: Although the rehearsal process is increasingly harrowing with each passing week, once the show has been open a few days and I feel confident that I am capable of executing the task, I can just enjoy the ride for another nine weeks or more! By this point in the run, SATURDAY'S VOYEUR is a thrilling roller-coaster I get to ride six times a week; I still love the excitement of slowly climbing into the sky and then swooping down and around for several hours, but now I can let go of the handle-bar and put my hands in the air as I scream in delight. No wonder my voice is hoarse.

I apologize for creating a boring blog, but I dare not spend any more time sitting at this computer, lest I arrive late for my call-time at The Salt Lake Acting Company today. If anyone reading this is deliberating whether or not you should buy tickets to see me in SATURDAY'S VOYEUR and ANGELS IN AMERICA, I beg you to do so to ensure that I have this job where I get something done well and on time! Plus, you will love watching my beautiful, brilliant, and/or hilarious cast-mates. If you are not 100% satisfied, I cannot give you your money back, but I will scrub your bathroom; I obsess about cleaning perfectly, too.
