SATURDAY'S VOYEUR '10- Fourth week of rehearsal by Lighting Designer Jim Craig

0413071106aSATURDAY'S VOYEUR at the Salt Lake Acting Company always pushes the boundaries. The script this year is illuminating and funny; I can't wait until the first audience gets to see it. I know the actors are working non-stop from the first rehearsal to the last day of performance, and the Director and Playwrights long before that. As a Lighting Designer, I come into the process a bit before rehearsals and then just pop in here and there as the script, characters, and blocking are in progress. But then/now it's time for me to start putting in the hours. Last week I designed the Lighting plot for the show (which for VOYEUR always pushes the limits of the lighting systems capabilities). This week I'll start the process of nailing down all of the cues for the show, at least on paper. I'll also focus all of the lighting gear (with the help of the wonderful crew at SLAC) and start to program the lighting console. After the show has been preprogrammed we are ready to start the technical rehearsals. Tech week means long hours for everyone, and the changes come fast and furious as we link the technical elements to the show, which will help support the amazing work of the Actors, Director, and Playwrights. I'm excited to add my layer to this great show, and I know you'll enjoy it.

So come and enjoy the show and afterwards when you go out for coffee to discuss what you just saw, remember all the characters, choreography, sound cues, costumes, music, scenery, organization, and lighting changes, and know that the immense amount of time and energy that it took to produce this live show and keep it running all summer means nothing without you supporting it and laughing along with us.  Thank you.

Jim Craig
