GO, DOG. GO! by Allison Gregory and Steven Dietz, actors' first week of rehearsal by Shannon Musgrave

Shannon and George Shannon and George

I'm so excited to be writing this dog blog! If there is one word to describe the GO, DOG. GO! experience so far, it is: CUTE! We're keeping a tally of how many times we use that word and after six rehearsals I'd say we're up to at least a thousand.

This show is magic. You step into a pop up book when you enter that theatre, and everything around you is food for the imagination. We spend our rehearsals giggling, playing, scootering, experimenting, running, dancing, singing, laughing, and working like dogs! (Ba dum bum!)

I'm so happy that SLAC is doing a professional show for children. There is something so different and so exciting about performing for children. They are the most genuine audience - which can be terrifying, but also incredibly rewarding. When they laugh, they mean it. When they're bored, they're not afraid to show it. We've definitely got our work cut out for us, but our cast and creative team are absolutely up to the challenge.

The show itself is pretty much P.D. Eastman's book verbatim, but instead of just seeing the words and pictures, you see everything come to life. You see the sun come up when it is day and the moon come out when it is night, you see dogs driving cars, dogs at work, and dogs playing a baseball game. You see dogs sharing, helping each other, and causing some mischief.

And though GO, DOG. GO! is a show for children, it's going to delight everyone from age 2 to 102. I get so wrapped up in watching the scenes I'm not in, I almost forget to go onstage. It will be the one of the best, brightest, most energetic and engaging ways to spend an hour with your kids and in perfect time for the holidays.

Can't wait to see you at GO, DOG. GO! and I can't wait to hear what YOU think of my hats!shan2

This white dog in the first picture is cute indeed:) Speaking about GO, DOG. GO! show I can't wait to visit it with my boys. By the way, this has to be my favourite book from childhood. Have two boys now, one 11, one 7. They both know the story. It was astaple with my oldest. I even ad-libbed in between lines, and that became the norm for both boys. They just got two new puppies for Christmas...Aussie Heeler/Lab mix. Took a couple of walks today, and on the second walk, it was a "Go Dog Go" kinda day. Dogs everywhere. This is some cool stuff, thanks a ton!
