Well, here we are: the last week of rehearsal of HOW I BECAME A PIRATE before we have an audience. It has been such a great experience! Even though the show doesn't run any longer than 50 minutes, this has been one of the fastest and most intense rehearsal processes I have ever been involved with. When we were first cast months ago we were asked to come to the first rehearsal memorized so that we could start staging the first day. I think that is what has made this process so great. At the end of the first week we had staged and choreographed the entire show. By six o'clock Saturday evening my brain was fried, but we had a show, rough as it may have been, it was a show.
Even though there were times that the speedy rehearsal process was exhausting, it has been a joy to work with a handful of my dear and ever so talented friends. Coming to rehearsal was a treat. There is nothing better than getting paid to get together with your friends to create an adventurous, heart warming and jolly piece of theatre. There have been times when we were laughing so hard that we could barely breath and some of us, i.e. Penny, nearly peed our pants. We all love doing this show and I think that comes through in our performances.
I hope everyone who has a child in their life, or has a child in their heart, comes to see this show. It has the right balance of fun and tenderness that reminds adults how to be kids again, and lets kids know that it's ok to be a kid. Enjoy the show!
HOW I BECAME A PIRATE runs now through December 30, 2011. Tickets available online or by calling the Box Office: 801.363.7522.
